Madison Arts Commission Annual Arts Grants Opportunity 2023-24

The City of Madison is pleased to announce that applications are now open for art grants that provide support for projects that enrich the cultural landscape of the City. The City distributes funds to Madison artists and non-profit organizations through the Madison Arts Commission's annual grant programs. Funding amounts now range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Applications are due March 15, 2023. Project Grants of $1,000 - $5,000 are designed to support the production of art, performances, exhibitions, installations, events, educational opportunities, workshops, or other projects that enrich the cultural lives of Madison’s residents. Individual Artist Fellowship Awards of $1,000-$2,000 recognize the significant contributions of professional artists of all disciplines in Madison.

These awards support continued artistic/professional development by enabling artists to create new work, complete work in progress, or pursue activities which contribute to their artistic growth. Legacy Grants of $1,500 are awarded to organizations that have received MAC annual grant funding in three out of the last six years. The updated grant guidelines and application for 2023-24 are now available at https://www.cityofmadison.com/artsgrants New online application form In response to community feedback on the previous application process, we are premiering a new application system this cycle.

The application form is built using Airtable, which the Madison Arts Commission (MAC) has used for other recent grant and public art calls. Hopefully the digital form-based submission process will make it easier than ever to apply for this grant. Tips for a successful application The application form cannot be saved and returned to, so please review both the form and the guidelines in full prior to starting your application. We advise you to save all text in a separate document and pull together all attachments before beginning the application.

Because this is our first year using this system, you may want to submit your application a few days before the deadline in case you encounter any issues. Please email madisonarts@cityofmadison.com with any issues, application questions, or to request a 15 minute meeting for grant writing assistance. We will also post a grant application video tutorial in the coming weeks to assist with this process.
