In response to a sanitary sewer overflow on the city's north side, City Engineering crews swiftly took action to clean up the mess and repair the damaged sewer main. The incident, which took place at 301 Troy Drive, State of Wisconsin Mendota Mental Institute, required prompt attention from the authorities.

The Institute initially hired Capitol Underground to address what they believed to be a private water main issue causing standing water. However, upon inspection, Capitol Underground realized that the water was actually wastewater and promptly contacted City Engineering for assistance.

Upon arrival at the scene, City Engineering Operations Crews wasted no time in confirming that the standing water was indeed wastewater. They immediately sprang into action, deploying a sewer vactor truck to clean up the affected area. Subsequently, it was determined that the root cause of the issue was a leaking City force main sewer that needed urgent repair.

Collaboration was key in resolving the situation, as the City worked alongside the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District and Capitol Underground to address the wastewater overflow and carry out the necessary repairs.

As a reminder, it is highlighted that reporting sewer blockages and overflows is mandated by Wisconsin State Law, emphasizing the importance of timely reporting and addressing such incidents in accordance with established regulations.
