Madison, Wisconsin - April 28, 2024 - More than 9,000 participants took part in the 42nd Annual Crazylegs Classic in Madison, embracing the sunny spring day as they ran through the University of Wisconsin (UW) campus. The event, which included an 8-kilometer run and a 2-mile walk, is a beloved tradition hosted by Wisconsin Athletics to support Badger athletics teams.

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin, serving as the grand marshal, enthusiastically cheered on the racers, including her husband, Joshua Foa Dienstag. The race, named after the legendary Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch, a former Badger running back and athletic director, started on Library Mall and concluded outside the Kohl Center.

The race saw moments of joy and camaraderie captured in a series of photographs. Chancellor Mnookin was seen interacting with UW students Molly Milia and Alexandra Moreno, as well as cheering on runners near the finish line. The diverse array of participants, including a wheelchair racer and a member of the UW Marching Band running with a tuba, showcased the inclusive spirit of the event.

One of the highlights was Drew Padgett of Madison winning the race with an impressive time of 26:08. The stunning weather, with a high of 80 degrees, added to the festive atmosphere, as runners navigated through the challenging course that included the infamous Observatory Drive hill.

The day's events were beautifully captured by photographers Bryce Richter and Taylor Wolfram, showcasing the energy and enthusiasm of the Crazylegs racers as they embraced the day and contributed to the success of the fundraising event for UW Athletics.

The 42nd Annual Crazylegs Classic once again proved to be a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants, highlighting the strong sense of community and support for Badger athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
