The City of Madisonville has announced the schedule and guidelines for student move out collections, which will take place from August 4 to August 22, 2025, in the downtown student move out area.
Residents are asked to follow specific rules when placing large items such as furniture and appliances at the curb. Items should be kept about four feet away from fire hydrants, utility poles, street signs, and other obstructions. They should not be placed under low-hanging wires or tree limbs. Large item piles should be kept tidy; for example, disassembled furniture pieces should be stacked neatly.
Metal items and appliances must be separated from wood items and furniture to allow for recycling collection. Small items that do not fit in carts must be bagged—no loose trash or debris is allowed on the ground. Excess recyclables need to be placed in clear bags so crews can identify them and should be stacked near recycling carts according to local recycling rules.
Bagged trash or recyclables should not be piled on top of large items or appliances.
According to city officials: “When you set the items out within these guidelines, you create a safe environment for our collection staff. And you help everyone in the downtown moving area by allowing us an opportunity to work quickly.”
Large item collection will involve two types of trucks: some with truck-mounted cranes that require clear overhead space, and others with two-person crews lifting items by hand. The city emphasizes that organized piles help speed up collection and reduce traffic congestion on narrow downtown streets during this busy period.
The city asks all residents participating in move out activities to adhere closely to these guidelines for safety and efficiency.
