Catholic Vote President Brian Burch said “children’s lives are being forever altered and ruined” by the transgender movement and “gender affirming care” programs.

“The evidence continues to mount that so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ is an atrocity that must be stopped,” Burch told the Madison Reporter. “Children’s lives are being forever altered and ruined through surgery and hormones because of an evil and false ideology with no basis in science.”

A four-year review commissioned by the National Health Service (NHS) England resulted in a recommendation against giving puberty blockers to children with gender dysphoria. The study, conducted by former Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, Dr. Hilary Cass, showed multiple unknowns regarding long term impacts of puberty blockers, and “weak evidence regarding the impact on gender dysphoria, mental or psychosocial health.”

“Although a diagnosis of gender dysphoria has been seen as necessary for initiating medical treatment, it is not reliably predictive of whether that young person will have long standing gender incongruence in the future, or whether medical intervention will be the best option for them,” the report said.

An article on The Federalist by writer Nathanael Blake said that the “tide may be turning against the transgender craze” because people “don’t like hospitals that hurt children instead of healing them.” There have been positive developments to support this, including the United Kingdom’s Tavistock pediatric gender clinic being shut down.

Madison, Wisconsin-based Catholic Vote is an advocacy organization that wants to “inspire every Catholic in America to live out the truths of our faith in public life,” according to the group’s website. Founded in 2008, its president is Brian Burch.
