More than $12,000 was raised for nursing student scholarships at Madison College Reedsburg’s Celebrate a Nurse 5K on May 1, helping reduce financial barriers for students entering the health care field.
The event brought together 215 runners and walkers who completed a course around the Reedsburg campus. Mascot Wolfie greeted participants at the finish line. Students, alumni, and health care partners attended post-race festivities and awards. The event is part of an ongoing effort to support those pursuing careers in nursing, which remains in high demand.
Now in its fifth year, Celebrate a Nurse has raised more than $60,000 to help offset tuition and clinical costs for nursing students. Last year’s scholarship recipient Angela Colvin said: “Receiving this scholarship inspires me to work even harder and to one day give back to the people and families of our local communities with the same compassion and dedication that Madison College has shown to me.”
Madison College President Dr. Jennifer Berne participated in the event for the first time this year. “It was inspiring to see our students, alumni and community come together in support of the next generation of nurses,” Berne said. “Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered and supported this event. I look forward to seeing you at next year’s starting line.” Dr. Jennifer Berne served as president of Madison Area Technical College in collaboration with the District Board of Trustees, according to the official website.
