Madison College is offering a new opportunity for high school juniors and seniors in the Madison Metropolitan School District with its Changemaker Leadership Program. This program, running from July 28 to August 16 at the Truax Campus, allows students to earn college credit at no cost by applying before July 7.

The three-week immersive program aims to bring together teens who are ready to engage in meaningful work. According to Sheldon Hitchens, Madison College strategist and lead program coach, “This program is about listening to the hearts and minds of our community’s brilliant young people and giving them the tools to say something and do something about the things that matter the most to them through leadership development, participatory research, storytelling, and creative expression.”

Students will work on campaigns with real-world impacts such as raising awareness or advocating for policy changes. These projects will include elements like visual art, digital storytelling, and public installations.

Participants will enroll as students at Madison College and take a Social Media and Marketing course offered by the School of Business and Applied Arts. Successful completion of this course will result in a letter grade and three college credits.

The Changemaker Leadership Program was developed by Madison College as part of a future-focused initiative aimed at nurturing emerging leaders through community action research. The effort involves multiple departments within the college including the Office of Organizational Culture, Community Engagement Department, Academic Affairs, and others.
