The City of Verona has proclaimed May 4, 2026, as Firefighters’ Day to honor firefighters for their service and dedication. The announcement was made by Mayor Luke Diaz in recognition of International Firefighters’ Day.
International Firefighters’ Day is observed annually on May 4 to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices made by firefighters around the world. The proclamation highlights the physical and mental challenges faced by both professional and volunteer firefighters in their commitment to protecting lives and property.
Diaz said, “International Firefighters’ Day is observed every year on May 4th to honor firefighters who have dedicated their lives to the protection of life and property.” He added that firefighters “selflessly devote their professional and volunteer lives in service to a purpose that comes with a physical and mental toll, including the potential loss of life, to protect their communities.”
The proclamation also expressed gratitude toward current members of the fire service for their dedication. “We thank current firefighters for their dedication to protecting the public,” Diaz said. He further noted remembrance for those who have served previously or lost their lives while serving: “We also remember past firefighters and those who have died in the line of duty serving their communities.”
Special recognition was given to members of the Verona Fire Department for their efforts within the community. “We recognize and show gratitude to all Verona Fire Department firefighters for their bravery and sacrifice in protecting our homes, properties, and the lives of those we love,” Diaz said.
The city’s observance reflects ongoing appreciation for emergency responders whose work impacts local safety.
