The Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Pool is set to open for the 2025 season on Thursday, June 12. In a gesture of generosity, Goodman’s Jewelers will cover the admission fees for the first 500 children starting at noon on opening day.

John Hayes, owner of Goodman’s Jewelers, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing this tradition: “In honor of Irwin and Robert Goodman, we are pleased to continue this tradition of sponsoring the first 500 kids at the Goodman Pool on opening day.”

The pool bears the names of philanthropists Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman, who contributed $2.8 million to initiate its construction. This donation was pivotal in helping the City and Madison Parks Foundation gather sufficient funds to complete the project, which culminated in the pool’s opening in 2006.

Located at 325 W. Olin Ave., Goodman Pool welcomes individuals from all financial backgrounds. The Madison Parks Foundation provides fee assistance through scholarships to hundreds of children each season, with applications available online for families meeting specific criteria.

Daily recreational swimming is offered as long as weather conditions permit, with Lap Swim and Tot Time scheduled to commence on Friday, June 13. Season passes can be acquired online or directly at the pool’s ticket window upon its seasonal opening. Since 2022, Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) has provided aquatics programs catering to all ages.

Patrons are advised to familiarize themselves with the Rules & Expectations and Pool Behavior Policy before visiting.

Goodman’s Jewelers has been a staple in Madison since its founding by Bob and Irwin Goodman in 1933. John Hayes took ownership in 1998 after working as a long-time employee. The store continues to operate from its original location on State Street near the Wisconsin State Capitol.
