State Senator Kelda Roys has been reappointed to the Joint Committee on Finance, as announced by Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein. The committee, known as “JFC,” consists of 16 members, including 12 Republicans and four Democrats. It is responsible for managing the biennial state budget and overseeing all state spending and revenue.
Senator Roys expressed her gratitude for the reappointment, stating: “I am grateful to continue our work to make Wisconsin a place where everyone can thrive. Our state budget should enable us as Wisconsinites to have what we need from our state government, so we can build the lives we want. I am honored to serve on the Joint Finance Committee again.”
Roys highlighted concerns about past budget decisions: “In the last budget, Wisconsinites made it abundantly clear they were feeling the pinch of the rising cost of housing, childcare, and healthcare. Instead of investing in those critical areas, Republican politicians tried to squander the surplus on even bigger tax breaks for millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations.” She also mentioned that public education and local services require more investment but are instead facing challenges due to increased property taxes.
With recent changes in legislative maps leading to a legislature that better reflects voters’ preferences, Roys is optimistic about future budgets: “Now that we have fairer and more competitive legislative maps, and a legislature that more closely resembles the voters, I am hopeful that the needs and priorities of everyday Wisconsin will finally be reflected in our state budget.”
