Lydia A. McComas has been named the new City Clerk for Madison, according to an announcement from Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. McComas previously worked as the Voter Engagement Division Manager for Hennepin County in Minnesota.

“I’m excited that Lydia is joining our team in Madison. I think she’ll be able to offer a valuable fresh perspective to our Clerk’s Office operations, while building on the many areas of strength the office has established over the years,” said Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. “She has strong communication skills and has led voter education campaigns with both community groups and the wider public. She’s well-positioned to lead the Clerk’s Office as we work to strengthen our operations.”

In her previous role, McComas was involved in election administration for a county with more than 700,000 active voters, including oversight responsibilities in Minneapolis. Her duties included ensuring compliance with election laws, developing poll worker training on legislative changes and procedures, managing voter registration and absentee voting processes, coordinating with canvassing boards, and certifying election results. She also assisted local government agencies with records and licensing requirements.

“I am truly honored to step into the role of City Clerk and to serve Madison residents,” said McComas. “I will work every day to uphold the values of accountability, accuracy, and accessibility that are essential to this office.”

McComas earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Minnesota and holds a graduate certificate in election administration from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She will begin her position on September 29.
