Madison Area Technical College reported on May 5 that its spring 2026 enrollment increased by four percent compared to the previous year, with notable growth in health care and skilled trades programs.
The college said this increase is significant as it reflects a broader trend of students seeking credentials in high-demand fields. The institution enrolled 12,038 students in credit-bearing courses for the spring term. Over the full academic year of 2025–2026, more than 28,700 unduplicated students participated across all terms and course offerings.
Dr. Tim Casper, executive vice president of student affairs at Madison College, said, “Our students understand the value of a Madison College education as they pursue their goal of earning a bachelor’s degree or gaining employment in-demand occupations such as nursing, plumbing, surgical technology, and more.” Casper also said that all seven campuses saw increases in headcounts; Watertown, Reedsburg and Fort Atkinson posted double-digit gains.
Demographic data show Black student enrollment rose by twelve percent—now comprising ten percent of the student body—while Hispanic enrollment increased nearly five percent to sixteen percent overall. Both younger students under age seventeen and older adults over sixty-two experienced ten percent increases. Continuing student enrollment grew three percent.
Casper said: “The increase in continuing students is a great sign that more students are on track to complete their academic credentials. When more students are completing their programs and becoming a part of our local workforce, they thrive, their families do better and the regional economy is strengthened.”
