Dr. Jennifer Berne has assumed the role of president at Madison College, marking a significant leadership change for the institution after more than a decade. She is tasked with overseeing the college’s seven campuses that serve students across a 12-county district.

Expressing gratitude for her new position, Dr. Berne stated, “I appreciate that the Madison College community has put their faith in me to lead.” She emphasized the college’s impact on students’ lives and its community influence.

In her initial weeks, Dr. Berne plans to engage with faculty, staff, and students while also meeting with various educational and workforce partners throughout the district. Her vision includes enhancing student success and strengthening community partnerships.

“We all have a vested interest in what makes Madison College a force for good in our district and the state of Wisconsin,” she said. Dr. Berne highlighted that students gain more than just credentials during their time at Madison College; they develop a lifelong commitment to growth.

Dr. Berne brings over 30 years of experience in higher education to her new role, having previously served as provost at Oakland Community College in Michigan. Her career has involved developing programs, expanding dual credit options, leading teaching initiatives, and boosting enrollment efforts.

Reflecting on her career path, she noted, “I’ve held many roles in higher education, and each one has prepared me to serve here now.”

Her academic background includes degrees from Michigan State University, Northeastern University, and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

The selection of Dr. Berne followed a nationwide search by the Madison College Board of Trustees. Board Chair Donald D. Dantzler Jr., expressed confidence in her ability to advance the college’s strategic goals: “Dr. Berne arrives with an impressive history of putting student success front and center.”

Dr. Berne succeeds Jack E. Daniels III as president following his retirement earlier this year after 11 years at the helm.

“What students gain from their time at Madison College is not just a degree or credential but a lifelong commitment to growth and change,” reiterated Dr. Jennifer Berne about her aspirations for students under her leadership.
