Callie Moyer, a graduate of Middleton High School’s Class of 2020, will begin her teaching career at Sauk Trail Elementary School this fall. Moyer recently completed her studies at St. Norbert College with a degree in elementary education.

Reflecting on her time as a student in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD), Moyer said she did not originally intend to become a teacher. “I knew I loved education,” Moyer said. “However, my dream was to be a professional dancer!”

Moyer is one of 80 new teachers and staff welcomed by MCPASD during its New Educator Induction event held earlier this month at Kromrey Middle School. She is also one of two alumni returning to teach in the district this year.

During her years as a student, Moyer attended Kromrey Middle School and credits two teachers there for influencing her path toward education. “Bill Luebke and Carol DeYoung really opened up my eyes to how teachers can be supportive and inclusive in their classrooms, while continuing to challenge students to grow every day,” she said. “They definitely impacted and helped shape my teaching philosophy.”

This school year, Moyer will teach fourth grade at Sauk Trail Elementary School. She cited the variety of subjects taught at the elementary level as one reason for choosing this position. “It is so much fun to connect with students throughout the day learning all of their interests, strengths, and challenges,” she said.

Moyer noted that the community atmosphere in Middleton and Cross Plains played a role in her decision to return. “The community within the District is so strong, coming together for events like Good Neighbor Fest, Back-to-School Nights, varsity sporting events, and performances at the Performing Arts Center,” she said. “I truly missed it while I was away at college!”

Looking ahead to her first year as a teacher, Moyer expressed enthusiasm about working with her students: “They are the reason I am here, and fill every day with excitement, joy, and laughter!”

For current MCPASD students interested in pursuing education careers, Moyer offered advice: “My biggest piece of advice is to know you’re not alone,” she said. “The support from other staff members in the building and as well as parents will help guide you so much during your beginning years of education. Being surrounded by such supportive team members has helped me grow so much as an educator and also as an individual.”
