WMTV 15 News recently featured efforts by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) to assist multilingual language learners and their families. The report included interviews with Elm Lawn Elementary School principal Lisa Rust, district interpreter and translator Soly Rodriguez, and paraeducator Sindy Rivera Amorocho.

Rivera Amorocho, who is originally from Colombia, shared her experience of being supported by Rodriguez when enrolling her son David at Elm Lawn Elementary. Rodriguez provided assistance not only during the registration process but also when Rivera Amorocho sought employment within the district. According to WMTV 15 News, “Rodriguez does everything from helping families fill out paperwork to helping them find a paycheck.”

After starting in Nutrition Services at Northside Elementary School, Rivera Amorocho will work as a paraeducator at Elm Lawn for the 2025-2026 school year. Her son David is set to enter second grade at the same school.

Rust highlighted the value of having bilingual staff in schools: “We always have to think of different ways to connect with families,” Rust said.
