Milwaukee, WI – In light of the recent arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan, members of the Milwaukee Delegation of the Wisconsin State Legislature have issued a statement condemning the actions taken by law enforcement. The arrest, announced by FBI Director Kash Patel on social media, is viewed by the legislators as an attempt to intimidate the judiciary into complying with what they describe as the administration’s “authoritarian goals.”
The statement emphasizes the importance of due process, which the delegation believes is compromised by the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at sensitive locations such as courtrooms, schools, churches, and hospitals. They assert these places should be free from intimidation, where individuals should expect peace and safety. The legislators argue that the arrest of individuals in courtrooms threatens the integrity of civil society, as it could deter witnesses and victims from participating in legal processes, thereby denying justice.
The delegation expresses concern over the broader actions of the administration, highlighting issues such as ignoring court orders and propagating a xenophobic narrative. They demand a return to American law and order, rejecting what they view as growing fascist tendencies in the United States.
