Mola Badjie, a student at Madison Area Technical College, was named the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) State Ambassador from Madison College for the 2026-2027 academic year, according to a May 7 announcement.
Badjie’s recognition highlights his commitment to building community and supporting fellow students. He said his journey began in rural Gambia, where perseverance and community shaped his values. “That journey inspired me to pursue education and eventually use health care to help others regain strength and independence,” Badjie said.
He chose the University Transfer-Science, Math, Technology Program because it allows him to build a strong academic foundation while preparing for transfer to a university with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. “Using my public safety experience as a student to support others on campus has been especially meaningful. Whether helping students feel safe, heard or connected to resources, I’ve seen firsthand how much this college values its community,” he said.
As an international student involved in organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa and the African Student Association, Badjie emphasized leadership through service. “I stay involved because leadership is about service… I want to help students feel supported, connected and confident in their potential.” He encouraged other students who may doubt themselves: “You belong in college even if you doubt yourself. Leadership doesn’t start with a title; it begins with courage, curiosity and the willingness to take the first step.”
Madison Area Technical College extends its educational reach across south-central Wisconsin with state-of-the-art facilities designed for practical training experiences that mimic workplace environments according to the official website. The college offers more than 190 associate degrees, technical diplomas, certificates and apprenticeship programs—including online options—and is affiliated with the Wisconsin Technical College System according to the official website. Dr. Jennifer Berne served as president of Madison Area Technical College in collaboration with its District Board of Trustees according to the official website.
Looking ahead ten years as a physical therapist, Badjie hopes “to help people recover from strokes and injuries, restore their independence and remind them that progress—no matter how small—is always meaningful.” He described himself as determined, supportive and dependable.
