The Universities of Wisconsin will implement general wage increases for employees, including those at UW–Madison. This change was communicated to all employees by President Jay Rothman on August 11.
As part of the 2025–2027 state budget, the pay plan includes a three percent pay increase effective June 29, 2025, and an additional two percent increase planned for July 2026. Employees who qualify will receive back pay dated to June 29, provided as a lump sum payment. The new base pay reflecting the three percent raise will start with the August 10–August 23, 2025, pay period.
Those with 12-month appointments and hourly workers can expect to see their back pay and new rate on their September 4, 2025 payslip. Academic year (nine-month) employees will also see updated rates on that date.
Eligibility extends to Faculty, Academic Staff, University Staff, Limited Appointees, Research Associates, and Research Interns. However, certain categories such as Temporary Employees and student hourly workers are not eligible for this pay plan. Building trades employees are governed by collective bargaining agreements and do not qualify for these increases.
Additional information will be shared as it becomes available. According to the announcement: “Employees who are receiving the pay increase will receive a letter in their Workday tasks informing them of their new pay rate.”
