A Special Election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, to fill the District 1 seat on the Dane County Board of Supervisors. The Clerk’s Office advises voters to verify their polling locations before heading out.

Voters who are pre-registered will check in using electronic poll books known as Badger Books. Despite the digital format, voters must still announce their name and address. If a disability prevents them from doing so, someone else may assist.

Poll workers will confirm the voter’s name and address and inspect their voter ID. Acceptable IDs include a Wisconsin driver license, a Wisconsin DOT-issued photo ID card, a U.S. passport, and other specified forms of identification. Some IDs may be expired if they meet certain conditions.

After checking the ID, voters sign the electronic poll book using either a finger or stylus. Those unable to sign due to physical disabilities should inform poll workers. Each voter receives a sequential number which they present at the ballot table.

At the ballot table, voters exchange their slip for a ballot. Two poll workers will initial it before it is handed over. Voters have options for marking their ballots including using a pen or printer. The ExpressVote device offers features like large print and Spanish translation.

If assistance is needed when marking ballots, voters can choose anyone except their employer or union representative to help them. This assistant’s details are recorded in the poll book.

Once completed, ballots are fed into a tabulator for counting. Voters should ensure that they receive confirmation on screen that their ballot has been counted.

For those not registered at their current address, registration can be done at the polls with proof of address required. Documents such as utility bills or bank statements are acceptable proofs.

A poll worker will ensure registration forms are complete and check proof of address before sending voters to another worker who adds them to the supplemental list for Election Day registrations.
