Spring Harbor Middle School students led a Clue-themed fun day in April, according to an announcement on Apr. 30. The event was organized by members of the student council and offered activities based on the board game Clue.
The initiative highlights efforts to encourage critical thinking and teamwork among students while providing a break from traditional lessons. According to the official website, the Madison Metropolitan School District Board supports student well-being through health and safety initiatives according to the official website.
Student council leader Sanjay Remesh said, “We already have fun days at school, but they’re usually half-days, so why not go all out and make a full-day fun day ourselves.” Remesh explained that the idea began during orchestra class last year. Together with Sylvia Pfleger and Elicia Traverse, they previously organized a Harry Potter themed event described as “chaotic,” but it was popular among students.
Jessica Schmitz, Spring Harbor librarian, said, “Sanjay had this vision for what the day would look like, and we all helped make it happen.” Planning involved all 14 members of the student council who met after school in the library. Pfleger said about her involvement: “It was obviously very stressful at times. But it’s something that I continued to do because I genuinely enjoyed this.”
On Clue Day itself, teams participated in activities such as Uno and musical chairs to earn clues about who eliminated Wolfy, Spring Harbor’s mascot. At day’s end two teams correctly identified Ms. Cindi Lewis as responsible for Wolfy’s fictional demise.
The Madison Metropolitan School District Board maintains 53 schools including elementary, middle, high schools and alternative programs according to its official website. Pfleger reflected on organizing Clue Day: “When we look back on it later in life it’ll be great to have these happy memories at school.” Remesh added: “I’m just really grateful that we were able to get this much freedom to plan something that not many other schools do… We put together something incredible and I’m really happy and proud to have been a part of it.”
