The State of Wisconsin recently voted in approval of expanding the borders of the Devil’s Lake State Park, which is one of the most popular spots in the area for outdoor recreation.
The park is located in Madison and is among the oldest state parks in the state, loved for its lake, beaches and incredible views.
“Great to see this expansion of Devil’s Lake State Park approved by a Legislative committee last week! Devil’s Lake is the most visited property in the State Park System, and this acquisition will help to provide for more opportunities for these visitors,” Rep. Rob Cowles tweeted.
The decision to expand the park was made by the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board, which voted unanimously on the measure to purchase a property of 220 acres, thus adding substantially to the already popular park.
The purchase price of the land was $1.64 million and will allow for the park to add more hiking trails, biking trails, hunting trails, hunting and wildlife preservation areas.
The land to be purchased is located on the southeastern border of the current park boundaries and is owned by Alex and Alma Steuber Family LLC.
The park welcomed 2.1 million visitors last year.
