Wisconsin native Max Klesmit has joined the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program as a transfer student.

Klesmit, a combo guard who spent the last two seasons at Wofford, announced his decision in a  recent post to Twitter. Madison.com reports he settled on UW from a list that also included South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Clemson and Colorado State.

Klesmit averaged nearly 15 points, three rebounds and two assists at Wofford last season, while shooting 44.6% from the field, including 34.0% from 3-point range as a sophomore. He was the Terrier's second-leading scorer last season and started in all 31 games en route to being named to the Southern Conference third team. As the team’s second highest scorer, he also shot 83 percent from the free throw line.

During his freshmen year, Klesmit averaged 8.2 points and 2.7 assists in nearly 23 minutes of action, good enough to be named to the conference’s All-Freshman team.

Klesmit joins transfer guard Kamari McGee and incoming freshman guard Connor Essegian as the three new players to the Badgers’ 2022-23 roster. The Badgers’ now also boast six guards on the roster, with Chucky Hepburn, Jordan Davis and Jacobi Neath also joining the mix.

Klesmit attended Neenah High, where as a senior he averaged 25.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in leading the Rockets to a 23-2 finish and berth in the sectional final on the way to being named Fox Valley Association Player of the Year.

With multiple scholarships available, the Badgers have been super active in the transfer portal, earlier adding McGee, who announced his intention to join the program over the last few weeks.
