July 4 festivities across Madison were largely a hit-and-miss proposition this holiday weekend.
While some Independence Day celebrations were a success, others were unfortunately canceled or postponed due to inclement weather.
At Breese Stevens Field in Madison, for the second annual Festival Foods Lights the Isthmus, hundreds lined the park with their blankets in hand to sit and enjoy live musicians, food and beverages and a ticketed fireworks display that happened on July 3, where kids were admitted free of charge, according to Channel 3000.
The following day, things were much more chaotic, as July 4 fireworks and other events were canceled in last-minute decisions brought on by the bad weather. While some events staged earlier in the day were able to go on as planned, like the Columbus July 4 festival parade, many other fireworks-themed outings were cancelled or postponed all across the state.
Leading up to the big day, Breese Stevens Field COO Conor Caloia said that he'd hoped to go out with a bigger bang over the holiday weekend.
“While the show was good last year, we’ve been able to work with the facility and the neighborhood to expand the show to make it a little bigger and a little longer,” he told Channel 3000.
While some of the fireworks might not have happened on the 4th as scheduled, makeup dates are already being finalized that span the rest of the month. While some occur the weekend of July 10, some are as late as July 23, according to NBC15.com.
