The City of Madison’s Economic Development Division is showcasing various programs and resources available to local business owners through the Office of Business Resources. One of the highlighted initiatives is the Kiva loan program, which offers interest-free loans to small businesses and startups. These loans can amount to up to $15,000, with the City of Madison providing a matching program for businesses collaborating with specific community partners, granting them access to an additional match loan of up to $7,500.

Businesses affiliated with organizations like the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce, the Hmong Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, and others are eligible for this matching program. JustVeggiez, a downtown-based restaurant, catering, and vending services company, is among the local businesses that have reaped the benefits of the Kiva program, having received $11,000 in 2023. The funding for the City’s Kiva project is sourced from the Small Business Equity and Recovery program within Madison's Operating Budget.

Additionally, the City of Madison offers the Building Improvement Grant program to support businesses in covering renovation costs, aiding them in establishing a stronger presence in their communities. JustVeggiez, situated in a historic building on State Street, was a participant in this program, receiving $50,000 from the City to assist in financing renovation expenses.

For more information on Kiva loans and applications, interested parties can visit the Office of Business Resources' website.
