In an effort to enhance civic engagement within Madison's Latinx community, the Latino Professionals Association of Greater Madison and the Office of the Common Council are organizing a Virtual Fireside Chat. The event will feature Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole and is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, at 11:30 a.m.
The Latinx population in the United States is one of the fastest-growing demographic groups, which increases its potential influence on elections and civic life. This growth highlights the importance of engagement in shaping public policy, representation, and resource allocation. According to the 2020 census, Latinx individuals make up 9% of Madison's population.
Madison's Latinx community has a significant role in fostering civic engagement. In response, the Office of the Common Council has partnered with organizations like the Latino Professionals Association to encourage local involvement from this community. The Common Council is responsible for decisions that directly affect residents' lives.
Residents are invited to attend this Virtual Fireside Chat with Common Council President Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole to gain insight into being an alder and understand Latinos' critical role in local government. Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole is notable as both a proud Puerto Rican and as the first Latina President in the history of Madison's Common Council. With her background in Business Process and Data Analysis, she brings valuable expertise to her position. Having lived in Madison for over three decades, she and her family are dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion.
The event will take place virtually via Zoom from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on October 22nd. Participants can join using their computer, smartphone, or tablet or listen via telephone. Advance registration is required, with login information provided upon registration.
For further details or inquiries about the event, interested parties can contact information@lpamadison.org or visit the event page on the Latino Professionals Association website at https://lpa.wildapricot.org/event-5901225.
