As the fall sports season concludes, schools are celebrating the achievements of their student-athletes. With conference play ending and postseason awards being announced, the hard work and dedication of these athletes have been recognized.
In girls' golf, West's team and Teya Capps from La Follette made a strong showing at sectionals. Ezabell Yu from West was named a 1st Team selection for the Big 8 Conference.
The girls' tennis teams displayed impressive talent with West's doubles teams Sarah Goetz/Lilah Dean and Isabelle Gao/Gabrielle Tiberi qualifying for State. Grace Huang also represented West in singles.
Memorial Football finished second in the Big 8 Conference with an 8-1 record and will compete in the Level 2 playoffs against DC Everest on November 1st. Notable All Big 8 first-team members include Marion Moore as Offensive Player of the Year, Owen Fiedler as Quarterback of the Year, Kam Parker as Offensive Back of the Year, De'Jion Steele as Inside Linebacker of the Year, Elijah Richmond as Tight End/Fullback of the Year, Ian Ladd as Punter of the Year, and Ty Mahone who received coaching accolades.
Boys soccer saw East face off against West in a sectional semifinal at Mansfield Stadium on October 31st. Liam Cahill from Madison West was named Co-Player of the Year in the Big 8 Conference.
In boys volleyball, West defeated Memorial in a sectional semifinal to advance to face Middleton on November 2nd for a chance to reach State. Notable All Big 8 first-team honorees include Sam Flemming from La Follette and Shadavien Johnson from Madison East.
Girls volleyball had Memorial preparing for a sectional semifinal match against Holmen at DeForest on October 31st. Kayla Shelton and Paige Williams were selected to the All Big 8 First Team.
Cross country state qualifiers included Mason Bieri and Oren Garvey Shah from East, along with Will Lisowski-Semb and Nick Zietlow from Memorial. Additionally, two teams from West qualified after capturing the Big 8 Conference Championship.
Girls swim teams are gearing up for tournament series starting with conference competition this weekend followed by sectionals and state meets.
