This year's Study Day at the Chazen Museum of Art is set to offer more therapy dogs, study spaces surrounded by art, and refreshments for students. Scheduled for Thursday, December 12, this event provides an opportunity for students to study amidst a notable art collection. In its sixth year, the event has previously attracted up to 1,000 students. The museum's events coordinator, Jamie Prey, stated that with seating for 150 at a time, there's room for more participants.
Past organized activities have been replaced with free food offerings based on student feedback. "Everybody said just let us study, give us free food," Prey explained. The museum will provide numerous refreshments including coffee, bagels, apples, bananas, clementines, granola bars, chips, cookies, and Ian’s Pizza in the evening.
New study areas this year include seats in the Carolyn and John Peterson Gallery. This gallery features sculptures like Optic Twist Screen #2 and offers views of the lake with outlets available by each chair.
Therapy dogs remain a highlight of the event. Dogs on Call will be present with various breeds including Labrador retrievers and Irish wolfhounds. Todd Trampe from Dogs on Call commented on the event's organization and student engagement: "Students are a bit more stressed than usual but they are so grateful for the opportunity to engage with our therapy dogs."
The Chazen’s Study Day is one among many initiatives across UW–Madison aimed at reducing end-of-semester stress. Other events include Wisconsin Union's Study Day Hike and Brew and University Housing’s stress-busting activities.
Registration for the Chazen’s Study Day is optional but available online.
