The City of Madison is set to participate in the nationally recognized Women in Construction Week from March 2-8, 2025. The initiative is spearheaded by the City of Madison Engineering Division in collaboration with the Parks Division, Traffic Engineering Division, Madison Water Utility, and Information Technology.
This marks the sixth year that City Engineering will showcase the contributions of women and their varied career paths within the construction industry. The theme for this year, 'Together We Rise,' aims to honor the strength and expertise of women and their crucial role in shaping the industry's future.
Starting on March 3, 2025, City Engineering plans to spotlight each agency recipient through social media posts, written articles, and video features. These stories aim to raise awareness about opportunities and diverse career paths available for women in construction. Among those highlighted are Molly Berkholtz from the Parks Division, Sarah Johns from Madison Water Utility, Emma Almy from City Engineering Division, Renee Callaway from Traffic Engineering Division, and Taletha Skar from Information Technology.
The City encourages following these narratives on City Engineering’s social media channels and website throughout the week.
Women in Construction Week focuses on highlighting women's roles within the construction industry. It also provides an opportunity for members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) across the country to emphasize opportunities available for women in this field.
NAWIC was established in 1953 by a group of 16 women working within construction to form a support network for women navigating a predominantly male environment. It received its national charter two years later and now includes over 115 chapters nationwide along with several international affiliates.
