The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes the importance of vaccination as the most effective protection against measles. The CDC recommends the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine or the measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (MMRV) vaccine, which also offers protection against chickenpox.

According to the CDC, "Most people who are vaccinated with MMR & MMRV will be protected for life." Vaccination efforts have significantly reduced the prevalence of these diseases in the United States.

Public Health Madison and Dane County are advising spring break travelers to ensure their measles vaccination status is up to date.
