Rep. Mark Pocan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Wisconsin's 2nd district, addressed various legislative issues through a series of tweets on April 10, 2025. Pocan, who took office in 2013 after previously serving in the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Dane County Board of Supervisors, expressed concerns on economic and public health matters.
In a tweet from April 10, 2025, Pocan highlighted the prolonged stagnation of the national minimum wage, which has remained at $7.25 for over 15 years. He stated, "The national minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25 for more than 15 years – the longest period in history without an increase. That’s why I’m a co-sponsor of the Raise the Wage Act, which would gradually raise the federal minimum wage to a livable one."
Later that day, Pocan criticized the economic impact of policies implemented by the previous administration. Referring to the repercussions of tariffs and recent legislative actions, he remarked, "Trump’s tariffs almost crashed the economy and Republicans voted for a bill that forces cuts to Medicaid and food assistance. A bit of a cluster…"
As part of his public health advocacy, Pocan, who chairs the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, announced a resolution for awareness. On April 10, 2025, he tweeted, "As chair of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, I’m honored to introduce a resolution to recognize April 10 as National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Youth make up 19 percent of new HIV diagnoses in the US, and raising awareness is key to slowing down future infections."
