Madison College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater have established an articulation agreement designed to assist students majoring in fitness, recreation, and wellness. This agreement, celebrated by leaders from both institutions on April 17 at the Madison College Truax Campus, aims to facilitate the academic transition for students seeking to enter the health and wellness sector.
Madison College Provost Beth Giles stated, “As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, the future of healthcare, and an increasing emphasis on physical health, it is essential that we support students aiming to make a lasting positive impact in the health and wellness sector. This partnership embodies both institutions’ commitment to providing effective and efficient educational pathways in this vital field.”
The agreement promises a smooth transfer process for students transitioning between Madison College and UW-Whitewater. UW-Whitewater Interim Provost Robin Fox noted, “With the need for community health workers growing much faster than the average occupation, it’s no surprise that human performance is one of our most sought-after majors. Students who complete the program receive a well-rounded experience that prepares them to enter a variety of careers, including exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, community health, and spots and recreation.”
Under this articulation agreement, students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Fitness, Recreation, and Wellness Management at Madison College are assured entry into UW-Whitewater’s Human Performance major, alongside minors in fields such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Management, and Health Promotion. They will receive a minimum of 57 credits toward their continued education.
To benefit from this agreement, applicants must submit an application to UW-Whitewater, provide necessary documents, and hold an associate degree in Fitness, Recreation & Wellness Management from Madison College, maintaining a GPA of 2.25 or above.
The collaboration between the two institutions extends beyond this agreement, marking a history of successful student transfer opportunities in areas like early childhood education, human services, information technology, paralegal studies, and liberal arts.
