The City of Madison’s Economic Development Division is updating its Economic Development Plan, inviting community participation as it seeks to modernize the nearly decade-old blueprint for economic growth.
A virtual workshop is scheduled for 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 29, aimed at informing residents about the planning process while gathering their ideas and feedback.
The current Economic Development Plan, titled “Connect Madison,” received approval from the Common Council in March 2017. Although some aspects of this plan remain applicable, Madison's economy has undergone significant changes, particularly due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. National and international economic shifts further affect prices and supply chains.
An updated plan provides an opportunity to adjust the focus of economic strategies. Despite high employment in Madison, many families face challenges in securing stable and affordable housing, and disparity issues persist. Throughout the process of formulating the 2024-2026 Economic Development Plan, these concerns will be addressed alongside the objective of outlining what actions the City should take over the next five years to enhance economic well-being for its residents.
