As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Madison Reporter have submitted a formal request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law. Our request seeks access to property tax records for properties within Dane County for the year 2024 and any available data for 2025. Specifically, we are interested in obtaining details such as Parcel ID, Year, Tax Value, and Assessed Value.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public, which includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. Access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. Given our position in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver typically extended to media professionals.
Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, this coalition aims to increase transparency and inform the American electorate about government actions.
