Metro Transit and the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) are continuing their collaboration for the fifth year to provide free transportation through the Summer Youth Pass Program. This initiative offers students in grades 6 through 12, including recent high school graduates, complimentary rides throughout the summer months.

The program aims to facilitate student travel across Madison, allowing them access to jobs, athletic camps, and various summer destinations without cost. "The Summer Youth Pass allows students to ride Metro FREE all summer long," according to the announcement.

Students who already possess an MMSD Fast Fare pass from the academic year can continue using it over the summer seamlessly. Additionally, participants in certain summer school programs may receive passes as part of their enrollment.

A new feature for 2025 is that students without an existing pass can now obtain a virtual Summer Youth Pass via the Metro Transit Fast Fare mobile app. To acquire this pass, students need to email mymetrobus@cityofmadison.com from their official school email address with "Summer Youth Pass" as the subject line. Detailed instructions for downloading and setting up a virtual pass are available at mymetrobus.com.

The virtual passes will be valid from June 12 through September 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Metro Transit also provides $35 summer passes for elementary or out-of-town students not eligible for free passes.

For further information on this program or other inquiries, individuals can contact Metro Transit's customer service at (608) 266-4466 or send an email to mymetrobus@cityofmadison.com.
