The Madison Police Department has announced the return of the Black Youth Academy, a free weeklong summer program. The initiative aims to foster trust, leadership, and life skills among Black youth in the community.
Open to students entering seventh and eighth grades in the Madison area, the camp will offer hands-on activities where participants can explore careers in public safety. They will also engage in life skills development and attend sessions on health, wellness, and problem-solving. The academy provides an opportunity for young people to connect with law enforcement and first responders in a supportive environment.
“This program is about more than just learning about policing,” stated Officer Tyrone Cratic Williams. “It’s about leadership, growth and giving our youth a voice and space to thrive.”
Due to limited spots, early registration is advised. Interested parties can register or obtain more information by emailing CORE@cityofmadison.com or calling (608) 267-1965.
The academy will take place from June 23 to June 27, 2025, at the Madison Police Training Center located at 5702 Femrite Drive in Madison. The program is free of charge and includes transportation as well as meals.
