Efforts to advance nuclear power in Wisconsin are progressing with the introduction of two new legislative bills. Assembly Bill 108 proposes a nuclear power siting study to identify potential host communities for nuclear power generation. "I am thrilled to see so much interest and momentum in advancing nuclear power in Wisconsin," said Rep. Steffen, highlighting the state's capacity to leverage its research, development, and manufacturing sectors.
Sen. Bradley emphasized the urgency of adopting nuclear energy: "Wisconsin must act now to embrace nuclear energy as a clean, reliable solution to our growing power needs." The proposed siting bill aims to prepare the state for innovative nuclear technologies that could sustain its economy for years.
Assembly Bill 132 outlines plans for the Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit. This event will gather industry leaders, experts, investors, and policy officials for education and information sharing on advancing nuclear power and fusion energy. It also aims to highlight Wisconsin's leadership in this field.
Rep. Sortwell stressed the importance of staying ahead in energy innovation: "With the emergence of AI and the dramatic increase in energy demands, it is critical that Wisconsin stay on the forefront of safe, clean, and reliable nuclear energy."
Both bills are set for a committee vote before proceeding further in the legislative process.
