Parks and open spaces play a crucial role in enhancing community health and wellness. The Park and Open Space Plan (POSP) serves as a guide for policies, planning, and resource allocation to support decision-makers, staff, and residents. It provides direction for park development, management, and system-wide strategies. The plan is based on public input, data analysis, and GIS insights. After undergoing public review, it receives approval from relevant authorities. Updated every five years, the POSP remains responsive to changing needs and is essential for securing federal and state grants that help implement its objectives.

In 2024, the City of Madison collaborated with MSA Professional Services to develop the 2025-2030 Park & Open Space Plan. This process involved a series of open houses, targeted outreach efforts including focus groups, a survey by UW Survey Center, and extensive committee work to draft the plan now available for review.

The City of Madison Parks Division invites residents to view the draft 2025-2030 Park & Open Space Plan. Attendees can see the draft plan, explore its chapters, and meet with staff at an open house scheduled for Thursday, June 26 from 3:30-6:30pm at Parks Lakeside Offices located at 330 E. Lakeside St.
