The City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is actively recruiting school crossing guards for the 2025-26 academic year. The division emphasizes the role of crossing guards as vital to community safety, helping children cross busy intersections and promoting road safety awareness.

Alex Stewart, Crossing Guard Supervisor, highlighted the significance of the role: “Crossing guards are the heart of our safe routes to school. Not only do they ensure kids arrive safely, but they bring joy and peace of mind to families and communities. It's meaningful work—but it’s also a fun way to start your day.”

Prospective candidates can expect several benefits from joining this team. The position offers $20.86 per hour with a weekly commitment ranging from 10 to 15 hours, depending on assignment needs. Additionally, crossing guards enjoy perks such as paid sick leave, a free Metro bus pass, and a uniform allowance for permanent positions.

Applicants need not have prior experience; training and equipment are provided by the city. Interested individuals should apply by July 14th via City of Madison Jobs.

Interviews will commence in early August with training scheduled for mid-August to align with the start of the school year.

For further information or application details, potential applicants can visit City of Madison Jobs or contact the Crossing Guard Program through their website or by phone at 608-266-4703.
