Madison Parks and Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) are marking National Park and Recreation Month this July, celebrating the impact of parks and recreation on communities. The theme for this year is “Build Together, Play Together,” highlighting the work of over 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals, as well as numerous part-time workers and volunteers.

The National Park and Recreation Association initiated this celebration in 1985 to honor the role of parks in fostering strong communities. Parks and recreation programs are crucial for community health, fostering friendships, memories, and family bonds.

Throughout July, Madison Parks and MSCR will host free events for all ages. These activities encourage participation in the theme “Build Together, Play Together.”

The City of Madison Parks Division oversees more than 290 parks across nearly 6,000 acres. Key facilities include Olbrich Botanical Gardens and Warner Park Community Recreation Center.

MSCR offers diverse recreational activities ranging from arts to sports for all age groups.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) supports building vibrant communities through parks. With over 60,000 members, NRPA promotes equity, climate-readiness, health, and well-being through parks.
