While residents of Madison gather with friends, family, and neighbors for the Independence Day weekend, they are encouraged to make use of the city's parks and greenspaces. These areas offer a variety of recreational amenities such as playgrounds, hiking trails, bike paths, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Goodman Pool, and splash parks at Cypress, Reindahl, and Elver parks.

The City of Madison has issued a reminder that ignitable fireworks, including sparklers, are prohibited in city parks. Alcohol consumption is permitted in most parks but not all; checking ahead is advised. The Madison Police Department’s Community Policing will be active over the holiday weekend to ensure safety in the parks.

Several fireworks displays are scheduled in neighboring communities on July 4th. The Madison Fire Department advises residents to attend these professional shows rather than using personal fireworks. In Madison, only sparklers, snaps, caps, and snakes—referred to as the “Fab 4 of July 4”—are legal. Any item that launches into the air is banned.

The City emphasizes that community safety is a shared responsibility and wishes all residents and visitors a safe holiday celebration. "Happy Fourth!"
