Starting July 14, 2025, the Street and Urban Forestry Division will cease accepting brush and wood chips from contractors at its processing center located at 121 E. Olin Avenue. This change affects tree service professionals and landscapers who must now find alternative facilities such as the Dane County Landfill or private processing options.
The decision is prompted by a construction project at the Olin Avenue site intended to create space for a new drop-off area. "The project will limit our brush storage capacity while the work is ongoing," explained an official statement. The construction is anticipated to continue until December 2025.
It remains uncertain if services for contractors will resume after the project's completion. Factors like the site's final layout, budget considerations, and other concerns will influence future decisions.
Residents are unaffected by this change and can continue using existing drop-off sites without any modifications to rules or operations. "Residents can still take brush to the Streets Division drop-off sites," confirmed the release. Furthermore, curbside brush collection for residents remains unchanged.
