The Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC) has completed its investigation into unprocessed absentee ballots from the November 5, 2024 election in Madison. The city provided full cooperation during the investigation by supplying necessary documents and staff assistance.

Michael Haas, City Attorney and Acting Clerk, expressed gratitude to the WEC for their comprehensive inquiry. He stated, "I want to thank Commissioners and WEC staff for conducting a thorough inquiry into this matter, as well as City staff who provided documents and testimony. We are currently reviewing WEC’s report and hope that it can provide lessons that we and other Wisconsin clerks can learn to prevent similar errors in the future."

In response to previous issues, Madison's Clerk’s Office implemented new procedures during the 2025 elections to ensure all absentee ballots were processed correctly. Further comments from city officials may follow after a detailed review of the report at an upcoming Commission meeting on July 17.
