Every summer, the City of Madison Traffic Engineering Department undertakes the task of refreshing road markings on city streets. This activity is crucial for improving visibility in poor weather and nighttime conditions, clearly separating lanes to enhance traffic safety, and supporting consistent driving across the road network.

The striping process occurs during the summer months, focusing on various city streets based on budget and need. Paint trucks and support vehicles involved in this operation are equipped with amber flashing lights and signs to indicate work areas coned off due to wet paint.

Motorists are advised not to pass paint trucks or support vehicles as they perform precision work at slow speeds. It is recommended to avoid following these trucks too closely and wait until they pull over safely before proceeding. Obeying "Wet Paint" signs and traffic cones is essential since even after a truck leaves an area, paint may still be drying.

If a vehicle gets paint on it, quick action is necessary. A pressure car wash with hot water and soap should be done on the same day. If that doesn't work, applying WD-40 or Vaseline can help remove stubborn paint residues.

Drivers' patience plays a significant role in protecting highway crews, ensuring quality road markings, and keeping their vehicles free from paint damage.
