The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting public feedback on a proposed change to the Northern Lake Michigan Coastal Regional Master Plan. This plan includes the management of Peninsula State Park.

According to Chapter NR 44 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code, a master plan variance allows for changes in use or management that align with an area's land management classification and objectives.

The proposed change outlines details for developing a shelter at the Lot 5 trailhead, as authorized in the regional master plan. It also includes constructing two new storage facilities: one near the trailhead for trail maintenance equipment and another at the golf course service area to replace an existing structure. The proposal involves removing the current storage building at the golf course service area.

Peninsula State Park, located on the west side of Door Peninsula near Fish Creek, spans 3,800 acres and is a popular destination offering diverse outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year.

The draft variance can be reviewed on the DNR’s Northern Lake Michigan Coastal Regional Master Plan webpage.

Comments on this proposed variance are welcome until August 7, 2025. Feedback can be sent to:
