The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has revealed the recipients of the Urban Forestry Catastrophic Storm Grants. These grants are intended to help communities recover from damage caused by severe winter weather, including heavy ice and snow that occurred between March 29 and April 1, 2025.
The grants range from $4,000 to $50,000 and do not require matching funds. The funding was allocated to three communities: City of Antigo received $50,000, City of Oconto Falls was awarded $14,322, and City of Rhinelander obtained $44,000.
The DNR’s grant program supports tree repair, removal or replacement in urban areas following catastrophic storms for which a State of Emergency is declared under s. 323.10, Wis. Stats. This funding round followed Gov. Tony Evers' signing of Executive Order #256 on April 1 after severe winter storms prompted a State of Emergency declaration.
