From August 4 to August 22, 2025, residents in the student move out area will see changes to the large item collection process. The Streets Division announced that during this period, most furniture and similar items left at the curb will not require a work order for pickup. These items include mattresses, couches, chairs, desks, wooden tables, area rugs, wooden bookshelves, wooden bed frames, and plastic shelving units.
Crews will patrol the designated area throughout these dates to collect such items without needing prior notification from residents. According to the announcement: "In the student move out area, starting on 8/4/25 and ending at 6:30am on 8/22/25, you will not be required to complete a work order for most furniture items, and other items that will be going to the landfill."
However, certain large or special items still require a work order. "Large item work orders are still required in the student move-out area during the move out period for certain special items," officials stated. These include microwaves, air conditioners, tires, dehumidifiers and other objects that may have associated fees for some residents.
The change is intended only for those living within the boundaries of the student move out area; standard collection rules remain in place elsewhere in Madisonville. Residents unsure about their inclusion can consult an online map of the affected zone.
"Work orders are required for these special items to be sure the correct truck is routed to these homes to collect them," city staff explained.
