As the new school year approaches, families are reminded to ensure their children meet Wisconsin's vaccination requirements. According to state regulations, students entering 7th grade must receive a Tdap booster, which protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis. Children entering kindergarten need boosters for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), polio, varicella (chickenpox), and DTaP vaccines. Parents should confirm that either documentation of these vaccinations or a signed waiver is on file with their child’s school.
School nurses play an important role in supporting student health throughout the year. Families are encouraged to contact their student’s school nurse with any updates or information regarding health needs for the upcoming academic year.
If a student requires medication during school hours, parents must provide it in its original labeled container along with a completed Medication Administration form. For prescription medications, families can obtain the necessary form from their doctor’s office or download it from the school website. The completed form and medication should be brought directly to the school.
