Middleton High School has completed renovations to the Bob Joers Aquatic Center, providing updated facilities for its Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams. The improvements include new flooring, tiling, starting blocks, and paint.
Erin Wheeler, Director of Finance and Operations for Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD), said, “This summer one of our capital projects was a refresh of our pool, including flooring, tiling, new starting blocks, and paint.”
Funding for the project came in part from two anonymous donors who contributed toward the purchase and installation of the new starting blocks.
Wes Lagerhausen, Boys Varsity Swim Coach at Middleton High School, commented on the importance of maintaining up-to-date facilities. “Staying up to date with all of the latest technology and information in the growing world of swimming is key for success on both the Boys and Girls Swim and Dive programs,” Lagerhausen said. “The floor, walls, blocks and bottom of the pool being redone really cleans up the look of the facility. It's brighter which will help keep energy high for our programs during practices and meets.”
Last season saw continued success for both teams: The Boys Varsity team won its third consecutive Division 1 state championship while the Girls Varsity team earned its fourth straight Division 1 state title.
Lagerhausen also highlighted how incorporating school colors and logos into the renovated space contributes to school spirit. “The biggest thing I enjoy about the renovation is the cohesiveness of the Middleton athletics colors and logos into the pool area,” he said. “It looks professional and it’s an area that represents the school in a similar way to our other facilities we have around campus.”
He expressed appreciation for donor support: “We know renovations do not happen often, so we are happy it was the pool's turn and love the final result,” Lagerhausen said. “I cannot say thank you enough to our donors. I know all of the athletes and patrons that use the blocks will enjoy them for years to come. It is with this support that we are able to continue our growth in and out of the pool.”
