The City of Madison Streets Division has announced that there will be no trash, recycling, brush, or large item collection services on Monday, September 1, 2025. The suspension of services is in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Additionally, all city drop-off sites will be closed for the day.
Residents who typically have their trash and recycling collected on Mondays are advised to place their carts at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Those with Tuesday collection should also set out their carts by 6:30 a.m. on the same day. The division notes that carts set out after this time may not be picked up.
"If your trash and recycling is collected on Mondays by the Streets Division, you should place your scheduled cart(s) to the curb for collection by 6:30am on Tuesday, September 2, 2025," according to city guidance. "If you have a Tuesday collection of trash and recycling by the Streets Division, you should also place your scheduled cart(s) out for emptying by 6:30am on September 2."
For large item collection, residents who submitted work orders to set out items on Sunday, August 31 will have their items collected starting Tuesday, September 2. Large item pickup occurs during the work week following the designated set-out Sunday; however, crews do not collect items on Sundays or holidays.
"The City of Madison drop-off sites will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025 in observance of Labor Day," officials stated. "The sites will reopen for their normal operating hours on Tuesday, September 2, 2025." Residents are encouraged to verify site locations and hours online before bringing materials.
