Katey Kamoku, who has served on the Sun Prairie Area School District Board of Education since April 2023, has announced her resignation. In a statement, Kamoku said, “I have enjoyed my 2.5 years of service, but the time has come for me to prioritize my children and my job.”

The Board expressed its appreciation for Kamoku’s contributions to the Sun Prairie community.

According to district procedure and Wisconsin State Statute, the Board will appoint a new member to fill the vacancy until the April 2026 school board election. Those interested in applying must submit a resumé and a letter of application by 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Applications can be sent via email or delivered in person to the District Support Center at 501 S. Bird Street in Sun Prairie.

Applicants are asked to include in their letter a description of their qualifications, three critical issues facing the district as they see them, and suggestions for addressing those issues. Letters should not exceed 700 words.

Interviews with candidates are scheduled for late September and will generally be held during an open meeting unless there is cause for a closed session. The appointment requires approval by majority vote from the six remaining Board members.

The Board aims to complete this process before the Annual District Meeting and Budget Hearing on October 6, 2025. Once appointed, the new member will serve until a successor is elected during the Spring 2026 election. That election will include two seats; both winners will serve three-year terms.

Community members seeking more information about applying can contact the Office of the Superintendent at 608-834-6502 or cvemur@sunprairieschools.org.
